The next Silicon Valley Microfinance Network meeting will be held on Monday, September 11th in Redwood City at Omidyar Network. Our speaker will be Eric Weaver, Founder of the Bay Area Microfinance Fund and Executive Director of Lenders for Community Development. Eric will discuss how microfinance works domestically here in the US, and compare similarities and differences with microfinance in other parts of the world.

A brief bio for Mr. Weaver is provided below:
Eric Weaver is Executive Director of Lenders for Community Development (LCD), and also founder of the Bay Area Microfinance Fund. Eric has spent his entire career as an advocate for low-income communities. He has used his background as a community organizer to develop LCD into an innovative not-for-profit financial institution that employs market principles, and rigorously measures community impact and seeks to effect systemic change.
After receiving an MBA from Stanford, Eric joined Lenders for Community Development to develop the original business plan and build its management team and board of directors. Under his leadership LCD has grown into one of the most effective microfinance institutions in the country. LCD operates Assets for All Alliance, the nation’s biggest Individual Development Account (IDA) program, and is the largest provider of micro-loans to low-income entrepreneurs in the Bay Area.
Eric has also shown leadership in the broader field of community development and social entrepreneurship. He was the founding board chair of Net Impact, and continues to serve on the board of Pacific Community Ventures. He also serves on the Advisory Council of Community Foundation Silicon Valley. In 2006, Eric was a recipient of the James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award, established to recognize and celebrate individuals successfully tackling some of California’s most challenging problems.
